This article explains possible reasons why you could not use the card reader at EPOS, what to check for and how you can setup the device correctly for use.

Reasons your Card terminal is not connecting

A few reasons on why your card reader is not working may be:

  • An error showing: Cannot connect to Verifone authentication server.

  • The PDQ is not connecting to the till.

Before you get started

Make sure that the following is already set up:

  • Reserved/Static IP address to assign to this PDQ.

  • The IP address for the default gateway.

  • The subnet mask that the network uses.

๐Ÿ“ŒNote: Check with your local IT for the above, as they will be the ones able to manage and provide this data.

You will also need to verify the following:

  • The Chip and Pin terminal is receiving power by plugging in the power supply unit.

  • Ensure that the Ethernet cable (LAN cable) is secured in the base of the unit (if using a wired network connection) and is also secured in the port leading into the router/switch.

Connect PDQ to EPOS

Once the chip and the pin are powering, the terminal will present two options:

  • Setup.

  • Press enter to start communications.

๐Ÿ“ŒNote: Users will first need to set the device up with the details provided by the IT (IP address, default gateway, subnet mask).

  1. Click Setup. The setup pin is 2580.

  2. Once logged in, press 1 for Network settings then 3 for Terminal.

  3. Enter the IP address, default gateway and subnet mask from this screen.

  4. On the till, enter the Stock module.

  5. Click System settings, then Till set up.

  6. Select the till the Chip and Pin will be connecting to.

  7. Click Payment integration, then Terminal details. The Terminal Details screen appears.

  8. Select the correct merchant account.

  9. Enter the Terminal IP. Once these have been entered, the last step is to pair the chip and pin terminal to the till so the terminal automatically logs in when a user logs into the EPOS module.

  10. Log into the PDQ and the EPOS module simultaneously. The login ID and password for the PDQ will be visible in the stock module once a valid merchant account has been selected

Once connected on both, users should be able to use the chip and pin terminal on the till.
